To introduce myself, my name is Kevin Le. I am a Junior and I am studying to earn a Computer Science major alongside a Mathematics minor. I chose this major and minor due to the fact that I have always enjoyed technology and math as a kid. Studying these subjects now as a college student allows the child inside me to pursue a degree that covers the subjects I have always enjoyed years ago.
With this degree, I hope to pursue a fulfilling career in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or even law enforcement at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Ever since I was a kid (this could probably be accredited to the fact that I loved the Power Rangers), I always had a strong moral compass and knew that I wanted my career to help others. Computer Science, I felt, allows me develop a skill that I can later apply to the aforementioned careers in a competitive way.
I am from Oklahoma City, OK, so I am a huge sports fan. I watch everything from Major League Soccer (MLS) all the way to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Football League (NFL). My favorite teams, respectively, are the New York Red Bulls, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Dallas Cowboys. The reason why I like to watch all these sports may simply be due to the fact that it allows countless people from varying backgrounds to rally behind teams in a competitive, but friendly, nature.
(My boy, Dak Attack, stealing the hearts of millions and Tony Romo's job:
My other hobbies include learning/talking about all things automotive (see Jalopnik, my favorite automotive blog), collecting hats, and playing video games. I have always been a believer of the fact that a love for many, varied hobbies is healthy and allows you to keep your social circle open to many different groups and your mind open as well their beliefs.
In conclusion, this was a brief introduction to myself. I hope I did not bore you. I also hope that you will enjoy my future posts this semester if you are kind enough to take the time to read them. Thank you for your time, and I wish you all the best of luck for the rest of this semester!
How great that you are interesting in cyber security and forensic technology, Kevin: that sounds so cool! Teaching online, I work with technology all day, and just seeing the changes in the time since I started teaching online back in 2002 is amazing; it makes me so curious for what is to come in the technology world. Maybe you will want to do a technology-inspired project for this class. You can do science-fiction style stories, or think about what it would be like to have modern technologies available in the past... a lot of the "magic" in traditional stories and legends is like the everyday technology we use today! Anyway, I hope you will have fun with the class, and I am guessing you will see all kinds of ways that mythology and folklore can intersect with your hobbies and interests. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome that you are pursuing your childhood passion! I know that computers dominate our generation and it's amazing that there are people like you out there to make sure it's being put to good use. Especially since younger and younger people are starting to use the internet which can become very dangerous.
Like you, I am also a sports fanatic! I cheered for OU my freshman year and don't miss much about it besides the sideline seats to all of my favorite sports!
Thank you for sharing and I look forward to reading your posts in the future!
Hey Kevin!
ReplyDeleteHow is it going? I think it is really cool that you had the passion to pursue a career in Computer Science. It would be really cool if you had a job for the CIA or FBI in the future. I too enjoyed technology as a kid. I used to play video games with my brothers every day when I was young. I think you have a very great mindset regarding your hobbies. I like the fact that you are open to many different facets of life. I look forward to getting to know you through this class!
Hey Kevin,
ReplyDeleteI think it's cool that you're into computer science. My husband is a programmer at OU. I have done some web design myself, but nothing too complicated. I think working for the CIA or FBI would be really awesome! It seems like an interesting line of work. I also think it's fantastic that you have many different types of hobbies.
Hi Kevin! Its really cool that you have so many interests! I also think it's important to have a few different hobbies that you are really interested in because not only is it just fun to like a lot of things, but it allows you to meet different people from all walks of life. I also think it's cool that you've been able to keep that moral compass for so long and that it stems from your love of Power Rangers. My idea of what I wanted in a college was based on Legally Blonde so I get it. Can't wait to get to know you better this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey, Kevin!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. I think your interest in law enforcement is so interesting. I have a friend that was interested in law school and the FBI, and he actually ended up making it to the final round of interviews for the FBI! He decided not to pursue that end, but it sounded intense, so I commend you for that. Also, I'm a big Thunder fan! How do you feel about the recent moves, with gaining Carmelo and trading Kanter?!
Hi Kevin!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is so cool that you are studying computer science and interested in Cyber Security. That sounds like a hard career path to get involved in, but it is definitely a career path that is growing in demand day by day as the technology industry grows. I look forward to reading your stories and getting a more technological perspective of the readings we do in class.
Hi Kevin,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on having a strong moral compass. I think it's really important in life, and it's probably why I like shows with strong senses of right and wrong. I have not watched Power Rangers however.
Do you like baseball as well as the sports you mentioned? Do you know what the most common MLB team for people in Oklahoma to support is? I'm from Atlanta, so I root for the Braves, though I don't follow them religiously.
Hi Kevin! Your intro definitely didn't bore me! I love that you get to pursue something at OU that was a childhood dream of yours, and that you get to align that dream with your desire to help others. Also, working at the CIA or FBI would be incredible, what a cool ambition. And I appreciate your love of sports — I'm more of a baseball fan myself, but the Thunder should be really, really interesting to watch this year. Loved getting to learn a little about you — have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! I loved reading your intro post, especially the part about your major. Both of the things that you are studying- computer sciences and mathematics- are things that are so outside of my comfort zone and what I am good at that I think it is awesome that you are so passionate about them! I also think that what you want to do with your degree sounds so interesting. It sounds so cool to work in Cyber security, especially with the way that technology and its uses are so quickly growing and being incorporated in our lives all around us. I hope you're having a great semester.
ReplyDeleteHey Kevin! Okay first off, mad props being so involved in math and computer science. I have taken through calc 4 and differential equations and while I love the applications of maths ( I am a chemical engineer) I am definitely not a huge fan of the theoretical stuff. Also, computers are one of those things that I REALLY should get better with since all of society and jobs are focused around them at this point! I hope you end up doing well in life and am excited to read your stories!

ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! It is so cool that you are a computer science and mathematics major. Those are definitely two things I am not good at! It is awesome that you could potentially being working for the CIA and FBI! That will be super cool! I love watching all the cop shows and it definitely takes someone really smart to do those kinds of jobs. Best of luck and it was good reading your post. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey there Kevin! It is so nice to meet ya! You are the first person in this class whose blog I have stumbled upon to be from Oklahoma City! I myself grew up there too! I wonder what high school you went to! But on other notes, it is amazing to me that you are a computer science major and MATH MINOR. I have to be completely honest, math has always fascinated me, and I so badly wish that I could be a whiz at it, because it is honestly an incredible subject once you are comfortable with it... but quite frankly I suck at it and always have. But I am already planning to take it up as a hobby one day when I'm old and retired!
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! It’s nice to meet you! Wow, I love have you incorporated your passions as a kid into what you aspire to be as an adult. You have many hobbies, which I feel is rare. I think it’s a good thing to have a lot to do that you are passionate about besides school. I think your passion for math and computer science will definitely be a huge plus point for your career! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! It's so nice that you've got so many interests - although sports and cars are something I know zero things about lol! I did once change a headlight by myself though so :) That's so crazy that you are a computer science major AND a math minor! Like woah! Wishing your major luck this semester and can't wait to read more of your work!
ReplyDeleteKevin, I don't know how I have never happened upon your project or blog until now! Majoring in computer science with a minor in mathematics sounds super scary to me, but it is great that you seem so passionate about it! I am sure that that passion will get you far in the future. I can't wait to read some of your stories!
ReplyDeleteHey Kevin!
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of interests that seem to contradict themselves, so it's nice to meet someone who has just as many different interests. I was never good at math, so I can't relate to you on that, but power to you, since I'm sure it's not easy at times! I'm from NY, so it's cool to see that someone actually knows about the Red Bulls, however, I won't hold it against you that you're a Dallas fan. Go Giants! Woo! Have a great rest of the semester!
Hi Kevin!
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of cool that it's this late in the semester and I'm still running into new people. But it's nice to meet you. You seem really goal oriented, which I think is always a good thing, and you have some pretty cool interests. I don't personally like sports, but I do love some video games, so I get you there. I hope you enjoy the remainder of the semester!
Hi Kevin!
ReplyDeleteThe randomizer tool really does work in an odd way, for I am just now meeting you this late in the semester. Better late than never right?
I wish you luck in working for the CIA. That will be an exciting job. I am really into criminal minds, and I think all those people have the coolest jobs. I hope you make it there and it is as cool as the show!
Hey Kevin,
ReplyDeleteI loved your introduction. I think it is awesome that you someday want to work for the CIA or FBI. I think it takes a special person to be able to fill those big shoes, and based on the little introduction I got I feel like you are a perfect candidate. I can’t wait to read more of your blog!
Hi Kevin!
ReplyDeleteIt’s great to meet you and I really like the design and layout of your blog! Also, I liked how you incorporated the football picture into your introduction. I think it’s really cool that you are studying computer science, my dad is a computer engineer and my mom is a computer programmer so I can relate to enjoying technology while growing up. I hope you are having a great semester!
Hey Kevin. I hope your semester is going well. As the least tech savvy individual in the world, I am very impressed with your major. However, I think your goals are really interesting and admirable. Also, I'm a really big sports fan as well. In addition, I also root for the Thunder and the Dallas Cowboys. I am sure a lot of hat collection has to do with your favorite sports teams.
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! The major and minor you have chosen will definitely get you far in life in my opinion. It would be really cool to work for the CIA or the FBI so I like how you are considering that. My favorite NBA team is also the Oklahoma City Thunder since I am from Oklahoma, but I am not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! I enjoyed reading about the different options you see for your career after college. You can do so much with computer science, and it's cool that you've already started to think about what fields you might enjoy! Also, you made a great point that computer science can be used to help people. When I think of helping professions I usually think of a doctor or teacher, but computer scientists can create change that reaches so many people, which is awesome! Thanks for the glimpse into your life and good luck in these last few weeks.
ReplyDeleteHi, Kevin! Math is one of my favorite subjects, as well so I can relate. I planned on pursuing a minor in Mathematics but decided to drop it, so I applaud you for actually pursuing it. It’s good to have an idea of what you want to do once you’re done with school. (Power Rangers is always a great source of inspiration.) Good luck on the final days of this semester and upcoming semesters!
